Moms Famous DAHI CURRY

My sister and me were very lucky to grow up with a mom who is a fabulous cook. One of the dishes she made is Dahi curry, also known as Besan curry, curd curry etc. I can eat this with fish fry everyday of my life and not complain.

So here's my gift to you....my moms famous Dahi Curry

Dahi Curry
Ingredients
1kg Dahi (Plain Yogurt )
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp methi seeds
8-10 curry leaves
2-3 Garlic pods chopped fine
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp cumin powder
2 tsp coriander poder
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
5 tbsp  besan

Red masala
Mix red chilli powder , cumin powder , coriander powder and ginger garlic paste, mix well.
Add to dahi and mix well.

Heat 1 tbsp of oil, add mustard seeds wait till it stops spluttering, add curry leaves , add methi seeds and garlic, wait till garlic turns gold.

Add Yogurt and masala mix to the above ingredients and keep stirring.

Mix besan with 1 cup of water in another dish and mix well.

Threw a seive add the besan mix to your dahi mix on the stove.
and keep stirring. If the curry splits a little while cooking dont worry just keep stirring it gently till it thickens and it should be fine.
Add salt and 1 tsp turmeric (haldi) and stir.

bring to a boil and let simmer for 5 minutes.
The best curry in the world is DONE.
The curry turned out a lovely sunny yellow, however with my phone's camera you cant tell.

  1. Dahi Curry takes me right back to my childhood days, one of my most vivid memories that I can now recollect was cycling back from school in the pouring rain to come home to hot dahi curry and rice. I still remember how I devoured my lunch!!! Love my Nan for preparing some of the most mouth watering dishes not easily found anywhere anymore! Thanx Aashu for the jogging the old noggin!!!
